Boat and Jet Ski Licence in One Day

Get fully licensed on the water in a single session at Redland Bay. Combined RMDL and PWC assessment means one day out, both licences earned, and lower total cost than booking separately. The smart way to get licensed.

Why Do Both Together

Three good reasons to get both licences on the same day

Lower total cost

The combined session is priced lower than booking boat and jet ski as two separate courses. One booking, one practical day, both licences, at a better total price.

One day, fully done

One morning out, two licences earned. You don't have to take another day off, drive to the ramp twice, or go through the booking and preparation process again.

Best value

Combining reduces the total cost compared to booking boat and jet ski as two completely separate sessions. See the pricing breakdown on the right.

The Day Itself

How your combined session runs

Before the day: complete your online theory training

Your online BoatSafe theory training must be completed before attending. Takes a couple of hours and can be done from home at your own pace. $75. Complete your online theory here
Here is how a typical combined boat and jet ski day runs, in order. The combined session runs approximately 7:00am to 3:00pm, though smaller groups finish earlier.

1

Arrival and pre-departure briefing

Meet at Moores Road boat ramp, Redland Bay. Your instructor covers what you will do on the water, safety procedures, pre-launch boat preparation, and what to expect during training and assessment.

2

Boat practical training and assessment

Head out on the water. The instructor demonstrates all MSQ-required manoeuvres, then each student practises and is assessed individually. Up to four students per session.

3

Theory assessments

Back on land, you complete two separate written theory assessments: one for the boat licence and one for the jet ski (PWC) licence. These cover rules, safety, and maritime regulations relevant to each qualification.

4

Boat results and wrap-up

Boat practical and theory results are confirmed. Students who have passed their boat assessments are ready to move on to the jet ski session.

5

Jet ski practical training and assessment

One student at a time on the ski. Each student gets dedicated, focused time: demonstration, practice, then formal assessment of all MSQ-required manoeuvres.

6

Statements of Competency issued

Everyone who has passed receives their Statement of Competency covering both RMDL and PWC. Take it to Transport and Main Roads to get your licence issued.

Once your boat session is done, we will give you an estimated time for your jet ski slot. If you would prefer to step away and come back, that is fine. Just be back 10 minutes before your allocated time.

Student Reviews

What combined-session students say

“I was a bit nervous about going for my licence but after about five minutes with Brendon I knew I could get through it. His calm, patient approach really helped and I even passed first attempt! “
Charlie Mooney, Logan
“We booked our daughter in with BoatPilot as we had heard good things – we were not disappointed. She came home beaming and full of confidence. We liked how they take compliance seriously – we want our kids to have fun, but be safe having fun!”
Britt Sutton, Capalaba
“I’d mucked around on boats years and years ago and I wanted to get a small boat – but had no licence! I was actually nervous and felt a bit strange getting licenced as an older guy. Brendon put me at ease and we had a great day out. Now I’m legal”
Bruce Hergstein, Redland Bay

Common Questions

Combined Licence FAQ

Can I get a jet ski licence without a boat licence?

No. Queensland law requires you to hold (or be simultaneously obtaining) a Recreational Marine Driver’s Licence (RMDL) to receive a PWC endorsement. If you don’t have a boat licence yet, we strongly recommend the combined session. It is the most time-efficient and cost-effective way to get both licences.

Can I really get both licences in one day?

Yes, You can attempt both boat and jet ski licenses on the same day. In order to receive your PWC (jet ski) license, you need to pass your RMDL (boat) license also.

What if I pass the boat but fail the jet ski?

That’s completely normal. The training portion of the session covers everything from mounting the ski to controlling speed and performing required manoeuvres. You don’t need prior experience.

Do you use your own jet ski?

Yes. We have a purpose-bought jet ski used exclusively for training and assessment.

Is the combined session more expensive?

The combined session offers a significant discount compared to doing each license individually.
