Boat and Jet Ski Licence on the Same Day: Is It Worth It?

An honest look at the combined course option, how it compares to doing them separately, and who it makes sense for.

Before you The short answer

For the majority of people, yes. You complete both qualifications in one day, at a lower total cost than booking them separately, and you only have to take a day off once.
This article goes into the detail so you can make the decision that’s right for your situation rather than just taking our word for it.

How the combined course differs from separate courses

The boat licence (RMDL) and the jet ski (PWC) endorsement are separate qualifications. The combined course covers both on the same day. You complete two separate written theory assessments: one for the boat licence and one for the jet ski, and both practical sessions are run back-to-back. Instead of coming back on a second day, you leave with both qualifications.
The practical sessions follow the same format as the standalone courses. The main difference is efficiency: one day off, one booking, lower combined cost.

Before either course (combined or separate), you must complete the online BoatSafe theory training at home first. When you book, we will send you everything you need including the link. It covers the theory content you will be assessed on, and it is a required prerequisite regardless of which course you choose. Complete your online theory here.

Who the combined course suits

The combined course is the right choice if:
  • You want both a boat licence and a jet ski licence, and you don't already hold either.
  • You want a jet ski licence, and don't already hold a boat license.
  • You’d rather do everything in one day than take time off twice.
  • You want to save on the cost of doing both separately.

Already have your boat licence? If you hold a current RMDL and want to add the PWC endorsement, you only need the jet ski-specific components. We run a dedicated PWC endorsement session for existing licence holders. See the Jet Ski Licence page or call us to discuss.

The verdict

If you want both qualifications, or just the jet ski, and don’t already hold either, the combined course is the better choice. One day, lower total cost, and you walk away with both licences. If you’re on the fence, call us on 0407 754 614 and we’ll talk you through it. There’s no pressure, and we’d rather you book the right thing for your situation than the wrong thing at all.

Most students who want a boat licence also want to get on a jet ski.If that’s you, the combined course is the straightforward choice: one day, both done, lower total cost than booking separately.
