Your Boat & Jet Ski Licence, Victoria Point

Victoria Point sits right on the bay, looking out to Coochiemudlo Island. We train just along the water at the Weinam Creek ramp, about 10 minutes south, on the calm, protected water you already know, so you learn on real conditions, not a pool, and you are boating your own patch the moment you pass.

Getting licensed on the bay

Victoria Point is built for boating

Few Redlands suburbs are as tied to the water as Victoria Point. The jetty, the barge across to Coochiemudlo, the fishing off Point Halloran, it is all part of life here.

Learning on your own water is the whole point. Rather than practise on a flat dam and meet real tides later, you train at Weinam Creek on the same protected bay you will boat on every weekend, reading the current, the channel markers and the barge traffic for yourself.

Boat Pilot is a BoatSafe-accredited provider based a short drive south in Redland Bay, owned and run by Brendon. You deal with the person who trains you from the first call to the day you pass. Small groups, no rushing, and a free re-sit if you need it.

Whether you keep the boat at home, launch at the jetty for a run to Coochiemudlo, or the family is finally getting licensed together, this page covers where you train, where you can boat once you hold your licence, and exactly what it costs.

Where Victoria Point boats

The water on your doorstep, and how to use it

A local guide to the water around Victoria Point, so you know what is out there and what to watch for. Rules and zones change, so always check current signage, tides and the marine park maps before you launch.

Victoria Point jetty & ramp

The public ramp by the reserve is your closest launch, and the mainland terminal for the walk-on ferry and vehicle barge to Coochiemudlo. Handy, but it gets busy and the surrounding water has go-slow zones, which is exactly the sort of thing we teach you to handle.

Coochiemudlo Island

Just across the water from the jetty, Coochiemudlo has beaches, calm anchorages and an easy loop for a first solo trip once your licence is sorted. A favourite afternoon run for Victoria Point families.

Southern Moreton Bay

The Southern Moreton Bay Islands sit minutes across the Canaipa Passage. A favourite for a day trip, a pub lunch or dropping the pots, and an easy first destination once your licence is sorted.

Eprapah Creek & Point Halloran

The creek and the Point Halloran conservation area are prime quiet-water fishing and exploring, and they sit in go-slow and habitat zones that protect the wildlife. Knowing where those start and finish keeps you legal and off a fine.

The Bay Islands

The Southern Moreton Bay Islands sit minutes across the Canaipa Passage. A favourite for a day trip, a pub lunch or dropping the pots, and an easy first destination once your licence is sorted.

Moreton Bay Marine Park

The whole bay is a marine park. That means go-slow areas that protect turtles and dugong, and green (no-take) zones where you cannot fish. Getting these wrong is an easy and expensive mistake, so we point out the ones closest to you during your session.

Where We Train

We train 10 minutes south at Weinam Creek

Your practical day runs from the Moores Road ramp on Weinam Creek in Redland Bay, about 10 minutes south of Victoria Point. It is where we keep the training boat, and the sheltered creek and bay there give you consistent, forgiving water for learning to berth, anchor and run the mandatory manoeuvres.

It is the same body of water you will boat at home, so nothing you learn is wasted. Once you pass, you are straight onto your own ramp at the jetty and out to Coochiemudlo with confidence.

We send you everything before the day

Precise directions to the ramp, where to park, what to bring and how to prepare. You will know exactly where to be and what to expect.
Why Redland Bay locals choose us

A local provider that does it properly

You have options for getting licensed around the Redlands. Here is what sets Boat Pilot apart.

Genuinely local

Based in Redland Bay and training on Weinam Creek. We know this water, these tides and these ramps because we are out here every week, same as you.

Owner-operator, every session

Brendon runs every course himself. You will not be handed to a casual subcontractor or chase an answering service. Call and you speak to the person training you.

Fully BoatSafe compliant

Accredited under the BoatSafe scheme and recognised by Maritime Safety Queensland. Correct class sizes, every mandatory manoeuvre, no corners cut. Your licence is sound.

Blue Card holder

Cleared to work with children, so teenagers and younger students are in safe, checked hands. A lot of our bookings are families getting licensed together.

Small groups, real helm time

Capped at four students per session, and we take single bookings. You get proper time at the wheel, not a few rushed minutes at the back of a crowd.

Free re-sit guarantee

If you do not pass first time, your first re-sit is on us, subject to availability. No second invoice. Most students pass on the day anyway.
Your Options

Choose your course

Most Redland Bay locals book the combined course – it covers both licences in one session and costs less than booking them separately. All prices include training, assessment, and the free re-sit guarantee.

Your day on the water at Weinam Creek

We do your training and assessment on the calm, protected water at the ramp. We take as long as needed to build your confidence, with no rushing through the manoeuvres.

Collect your licence at TMR

When you pass you receive a Statement of Competency. Take it to the Transport and Main Roads centre at Cleveland or Capalaba, pay the government fee, and your licence is issued. You have six months to complete this step.

What our students say

Rated 5.0 on Google

“When you hear back from your 16 and 18 year old teenagers that they had fun learning today that can only be a good thing. The central Redland Bay location meant getting there was a breeze too.”

Craig Hiley

Redland Bay

“Completed both my boat licence and jet ski licence on the same day and couldn’t be happier. The trainer made the boating rules and safety requirements easy to understand, and the hands-on training was excellent. I’d recommend Boat Pilot in Redland Bay to anyone needing a boat or jet ski licence.”

Family Davis

Redland Bay

“Did our JetSki and Boat licenses with Brendon. Was such a great experience, I was nervous going into it but he was very chill and helpful. Great day, couldn’t recommend Boat Pilot enough!”

Common Questions

Frequently asked

If there’s something else on your mind, call Brendon on 0407 754 614. You’ll speak to the instructor, not an answering service.

Where do you train if I live in Victoria Point?

We train at the Moores Road ramp on Weinam Creek in Redland Bay, about 10 minutes south of Victoria Point. It is where the training boat is kept, on calm, protected water that is ideal for learning and assessment. We send precise directions and a preparation guide when you book.

Can I boat across to Coochiemudlo once I am licensed?

Yes. Once you hold your RMDL you can launch at the Victoria Point jetty ramp and run across to Coochiemudlo, or head out into southern Moreton Bay and down to the Bay Islands. We teach you to read the tides, the barge traffic and the go-slow zones you will use on exactly this water.

How much does a boat licence cost?

A boat licence is $300 for your training and assessment, and the combined boat and jet ski course is $475 for both together, which saves you $90 versus booking them separately. A separate government fee is paid to Transport and Main Roads when you collect your licence. See our full cost breakdown.

Do I need to know the marine park zones around the Point?

Yes, and we cover it. The water off Victoria Point, Eprapah Creek and Point Halloran includes go-slow areas that protect turtles and dugong, and green (no-take) zones where you cannot fish. We point out the ones closest to you during your session.

Can I get both my boat and jet ski licence in one day?

Yes. The combined course covers both the RMDL boat licence and the PWC jet ski endorsement in a single session, typically 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. It is the most popular choice because it sorts both licences in one day and costs less than booking each course separately.

Where do I collect my licence after I pass?

You leave with a Statement of Competency, valid for six months. Take it to a Transport and Main Roads customer service centre, the Cleveland or Capalaba centre is closest, and pay the government fee to have your licence issued.

What is the minimum age for a boat or jet ski licence in Queensland?

You must be 16 to hold either the RMDL or the PWC endorsement. You can sit the course from 15 years and 6 months, so you are ready to apply the day you turn 16. More in our age requirements guide.

What happens if I do not pass on the day?

Your first re-sit with Boat Pilot is free, subject to availability. We will be clear about what to practise and rebook you as soon as we can. Most students pass on the day, but the guarantee is there if you need it.
